Man who killed pregnant wife, leaving baby in critical condition, gets life in prison


COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado — A Colorado Springs man who shot his pregnant wife to death, leaving her baby in critical condition, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The Gazette reports ( ) Andre Jones was sentenced Friday for the September death of Lakeisha Jones. He was convicted on all counts, including first-degree murder after deliberation, felony murder and unlawful termination of a pregnancy.

Lakeisha Jones was seven months pregnant with another man's baby, which the prosecution argued had been the motive for the killing. She died at a nearby hospital, but doctors were able to deliver her baby.

On the day of the killing, Andre and Lakeisha Jones were due in court for a mediation hearing in their pending divorce.
