National Weather Service expecting storms in northern Alabama

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — Forecasters say scattered thunderstorms are expected in parts of northern Alabama.

The National Weather Service says storms are expected in an area including Lauderdale, Madison, DeKalb counties and more on Saturday.

Officials say the storms are likely during the afternoon and are expected to linger into the night. Forecasters say the storms are capable of producing winds of up to 30 mph and lightning.

Forecasters say they're also expecting storms and winds of up to 40 mph in parts of north Alabama on Sunday. Officials say the weather system also could include small hail and may last into Monday.
