GREENWICH, New York — Authorities say a woman has died after she was hit by a vehicle while walking along a rural road in eastern New York.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office tells The Post-Star of Glens Falls (http://bit.ly/1MEhAC6 ) that the woman was walking in one of the lanes of Route 29 around 6 p.m. Thursday when she was hit near the Middle Falls Fire Department's station in the town of Greenwich, 30 miles northeast of Albany.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name hasn't been released.

Police say there didn't appear to be any criminal wrongdoing on the part of the driver.

Route 29 was closed for more than four hours after the accident but is open Friday morning.
