Job growth in Rhode Island in June stronger than initially reported; 1,200 more jobs

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — State officials are reporting stronger job growth in the second quarter of the year in Rhode Island than originally estimated.

The state Department of Labor and Training said Thursday an analysis of tax data showed 1,200 more jobs for the quarter ending in June than initially reported. The new figure for Rhode Island jobs in June is 477,800. That includes 800 more in the private sector and 400 more in the public sector.

The estimates shows Rhode Island gained 5,400 jobs between June 2013 and June 2014.

The revised numbers also show the state gained 6,600 jobs in the first half of this year, or an estimated 8,900 through September. Officials say that's the stronger start since at least 1990, when the department began the tracking.
