Armed man wearing bulletproof vest shot by LA deputies; suspected of beating up his mother

LANCASTER, Calif. — Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies shot and wounded a 29-year-old man armed with a rifle and wearing a bulletproof vest.

Deputy Lillian Peck says Matthew Ridgway's mother told authorities her son had beaten her up and threatened her with a gun late Saturday in the Lake Los Angeles area.

The 60-year-old woman said her son told her he was "prepared to go to war."

Responding deputies chased Ridgway out of the house. Peck says they found him hiding in a neighbor's shed, where a deputy shot him.

Ridgway was treated for his injury and booked for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
