ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey — Prosecutors say an armed man was shot and killed by police during a confrontation in Atlantic City.

The Press of Atlantic City (http://bit.ly/1uHIFJZ) reports that the shooting occurred around 1 p.m. Tuesday, shortly after officers responded to reports of multiple shots fired in the area of Route 30 and Pennsylvania Avenue.

Upon arrival, three plainclothes officers encountered 20-year-old city resident Shawn Brown, who prosecutors say was armed with a handgun. Brown was shot a short time later and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Further details on the shooting of Brown and the earlier shooting were not immediately disclosed.
