Wilmington police officer breaks finger in struggle with suspect

WILMINGTON, Delaware — Wilmington Police say an officer was injured during a struggle with a suspect.

It happened Sunday on Kirkwood Street. Police investigating reports of shots fired, were escorting a man to a police cruiser.

Authorities say the man kicked one of the officer's hands into the door of the cruiser, breaking his finger. Police say officers were able to regain control of the man and arrest him.

The officer was treated and released at a local hospital.

Twenty-year-old Robert Dunnum was charged with assault of a law enforcement officer and other offenses.
