Huntington police identify homeless man who was struck and killed by train

HUNTINGTON, West Virginia — Huntington police have identified a homeless man who was struck and killed by a train.

Police Chief Joe Ciccarelli tells The Herald-Dispatch ( ) that police notified 46-year-old Kevin Wayne Childers' next of kin this week after the state Medical Examiner's Office confirmed his identity. Officers listed the Huntington City Mission as Childers' place of residence.

Police found Childers beneath a CSX train car on April 9.

Childers was found hours after a Huntington man was struck and injured by a train at another location.

Ciccarelli says investigators believe alcohol was a contributing factor in both incidents.
