Driver charged with leaving scene after teenage bicyclist was hit in Seaford

SEAFORD, Delaware — Delaware State Police say a driver has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash that seriously injured a teenage bicyclist in Seaford.

The crash occurred Oct. 15 on Woodpecker Road. Troopers said in a news release that a 17-year-old was riding his bicycle south when he was hit from behind.

Investigators say the youth was thrown into a cornfield and the vehicle fled the scene. Police say a passer-by saw the youth in the field and called 911.

The bicyclist was taken to a local hospital, where authorities say he is in stable condition.

Police say the driver, 26-year-old Justin Trice of Easton, Maryland, contacted investigators on Oct. 19. On Tuesday, Trice was charged with leaving the scene of a collision resulting in injury and other offenses.
