DOVER, Delaware — Jordan Lawson scored 15 points and hauled in 10 rebounds to lead Delaware State to a 107-48 blowout over Cairn on Saturday.
It was Lawson's first career double-double as six Hornets hit double digits in the season opener. Kendal Williams and DeAndre Haywood scored 14 points each, Kendall Gray had 11 and two blocks, while Tyshawn Bell and Mrdjan Gasevic had 10 points each.
Delaware State shot 59 percent from the field and 42 percent from beyond the arc, and held a 59-27 rebounding advantage. The 59-point victory margin is the biggest for the Hornets since 2011 when they reached triple digits in a blowout 104-41 win over Cairn when it was called Philadelphia Biblical.
Tyler Lee led Cairn with 18 points, nine rebounds and two steals. The Highlanders shot 26 percent from the field and went 2 for 21 on 3-pointers.
