MORIAH, New York — State police say an 83-year-old man is in critical condition after he was wounded by another hunter while deer hunting in northern New York.

Troopers say Joseph Rodriguez of Mineville was hunting late Monday afternoon in the woods off Bartlett Pond Road in the Essex County town of Moriah, on Lake Champlain 95 miles north of Albany.

Police say Rodriguez was shot in the abdomen with a 12-gauge deer slug.

He was taken to the hospital in Plattsburgh, where he's listed in critical condition Tuesday.

Police haven't said who shot Rodriquez. Troopers say the shooting is being investigated.
