NATCHEZ, Mississippi — The City of Natchez is looking at a proposed $3 million to $4 million expansion of local convention center.

The proposal came this week from Natchez Convention Center Director Walter Tipton.

The Natchez Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/Q4RA9L) Tipton first made the proposal to the city in March 2013.

Tipton says the expansion was planned for when the center was first built.

Tipton says preliminary plans include increasing the 3-percent lodging tax to 4 percent and the 1.5 percent restaurant tax to 2 percent to finance the expansion.

The increase in tourism taxes would require approval by the Legislature.
