WAILUKU, Hawaii — Sheriff deputies have captured an inmate who escaped from the Maui Community Correctional Center.

The state Department of Public Safety says Junior Jorju was found Monday morning hiding in the back parking lot of the Harbor Lights condominium complex in Kahului.

The 40-year-old Jorju was discovered missing during a Saturday night headcount at the jail.

Officials say he was serving a two-week sentence for driving without a license and criminal contempt of court.

He was scheduled to be released in six days but now faces an additional five years for an escape charge.

It's not yet known exactly how he managed to escape. Maui police are investigating.
