BURBANK, California — Los Angeles police say officers shot and killed a car-theft suspect after his vehicle collided with a police cruiser following a high-speed chase.

Officer Lilliana Preciado says the shooting occurred around 1:45 a.m. Thursday on a residential cul de sac in Burbank.

Preciado says an officer on the passenger side of the patrol car opened fire on the suspect after the two vehicles collided. The suspect then ran from his car. He was chased by officers before falling near an alley.

Preciado says no shots were fired during the foot pursuit.

The suspect was declared dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

The chase began in North Hollywood after officers noticed the car with paper plates being driven erratically. The car was later determined to have been stolen.
