KALAMAZOO, Michigan — David Brown scored a career-high 31 points for Western Michigan Tuesday night as they beat in-state foe Oakland 99-88.
Five players scored in double-figures for the Broncos (4-2). Connar Tava added 20 points and Shayne Whittington had 17.
Travis Bader, who leads the nation with 60 straight games with at least one 3-pointer, led Oakland (0-7) with 25 points including 5 of 8 from beyond the arc. Corey Petros scored 21 points and had 11 rebounds for the Golden Grizzlies.
The Broncos scored the first 11 points of the game, but Oakland used a 28-9 run to take a 28-20 lead with 10 minutes left in the first half. Western Michigan took the lead back with four minutes left in the half and never trailed after that.
Western Michigan shot 57 percent from the field and outrebounded Oakland 38-22.
