Man sentenced to life in prison for stabbing homeless man, no chance for parole for 15 years

DAYTON, Ohio — A man convicted of murder in the slaying of a homeless man stabbed over 100 times has been sentenced in southwestern Ohio to life in prison with no chance for parole for 15 years.

Montgomery County's prosecutor says 28-year-old Curtis Gray of Dayton was sentenced Thursday in the Oct. 10, 2013, slaying of 51-year-old Daniel Mooty in Dayton. A jury last month convicted Gray of murder and felonious assault charges.

A message seeking comment from Gray's attorneys was left Thursday.

Police say they received a 911 call early on the morning of Oct. 10 reporting that a man was screaming, and then found Gray hovering over Mooty's body.

Authorities said Mooty had over 100 stab wounds. There was no comment on a possible motive.
