Contra Costa County deputies suspect murder-suicide in shootings of 2 brothers in Pacheco

PACHECO, California — The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department is investigating the shooting deaths of two brothers that they say may have been the result of a murder-suicide.

The San Jose Mercury News ( ) reports that deputies found 64-year-old Richard Gilmore fatally wounded when they arrived at a home in the unincorporated area of Pacheco on Thursday afternoon.

Gilmore's 67-year-old brother, John, who had a shotgun wound, was taken to a hospital where he died.

Deputies, who were called to the home because of a disturbance, said the brothers had an ongoing dispute.

Authorities didn't say what the dispute was about, and they added it wasn't clear which brother was the shooter.

The unincorporated Pacheco area is between the cities of Martinez and Concord.
