Muskogee man shoots, kills alleged robber of neighbor's home; claims he acted in self defense

MUSKOGEE, Oklahoma — A Muskogee man claims he acted in self-defense when he shot and killed a man during an alleged robbery of his neighbor's home.

The Oklahoman reports ( ) that 20-year-old Kyle Flood told investigators his neighbor, 46-year-old Dana Lewis, knocked on his door Saturday night and said three men were burglarizing her home.

Flood retrieved a semi-automatic pistol and told the men to leave. When they instead approached Flood, he cocked his firearm and again told them to leave.

Flood told police he feared for his safety when one of the men came toward him in an aggressive manner and fired one shot at the man's chest.

The suspects fled, and the wounded man was taken to an area hospital where he died about 5 a.m. Sunday. He hasn't been identified.
