Prosecutors working to get trial dates for 2 men charged in Greenwood murder-for-hire case

GREENWOOD, Mississippi — Prosecutors are working to get a trial date for two men involved in a murder-for-hire scheme that targeted a Greenwood attorney.

The Greenwood Commonwealth reports (http://bit.ly/1LSbPmr) Derrick Lacy and Cordarious Robinson are each charged for their roles in the April 28, 2012, shooting at the law office of Lee Abraham.

The shootout resulted in the death of alleged hit man Keaira Byrd and injuring of Lacy. Byrd allegedly had been hired to kill Abraham by Greenwood oncologist Arnold Smith.

Abraham was not hurt. Smith has been committed to the Mississippi State Hospital for treatment of mental illness.

Lacy is charged with capital murder for Byrd's death and conspiracy to commit murder for the alleged plot against Abraham. Robinson is charged with conspiracy for allegedly helping to hire Byrd and Lacy.
