ATV accident in Johnson County claims life of 26-year-old man

HAZARD, Kentucky — Authorities say a 26-year-old man has been killed in an all-terrain vehicle accident in Johnson County.

According to WYMT-TV (http://bit.ly/UKmKpf), the accident happened around 5 a.m. on Sunday in the community of Van Lear.

Officials say Brandon Powers was riding as a passenger on the driver's lap when the driver lost control and hit a ditch. Powers was thrown from the ATV and died at the scene.

Two other people were taken to a local hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Officials did not identify the driver, and have not said whether charges will be filed.

The accident remains under investigation.
