URBANA, Ohio — Opponents of a multimillion dollar wind project that would build at least 52 wind turbines in southwest Ohio are challenging a state board's approval of the project's next phase.
The Ohio Power Siting Board voted this week to allow the second phase of the Buckeye Wind Project. The Springfield News-Sun reports (http://bit.ly/144KXUv ) that opponents living near the proposed project want that decision reviewed.
The board decision allows 52 of 56 proposed turbines to be built across several townships in Champaign County. Project developers say the wind farm could mean up to $55 million to the local economy.
Members of Union Neighbors United have concerns about noise, shadows cast by the blades and other issues.
The siting board has approved 10 certificates for wind farms across the state, totaling 639 turbines.
