AUBURN, Alabama — Ostin McPherson ran for 160 yards and three touchdowns and Jalen Thompson passed for two more as St. Paul's Episcopal capped an undefeated season with a 35-13 win over Pleasant Grove in the Class 5A state championship game at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Thursday night.

The top-ranked Saints (15-0) were noted for their defense and both teams settled into a scoreless battle through much of the first half before McPherson finally capped a 13-play drive with a 4-yard run with 6:46 left in the second quarter.

The unranked Spartans (12-3) answered when Amarui Callens wrestled De'Juan Feagan's pass away from Saints defensive back Tamaurice Smith and Brandon Simmons scored from 3 yards out on the next play, but the extra-point attempt was blocked and the Spartans rarely threatened again until Feagan scored on a 3-yard run with 1:39 left.

St. Paul's won its only other state title in 2007.
