Head of W.Va. effort to increase physical activity involved in DC obesity conference

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The head of a statewide effort to increase physical activity and promote wellness is taking part in a national conference on obesity prevention and control.

Eloise Elliott is a West Virginia University professor and chairs the West Virginia Physical Activity Plan, whose goal is to get residents of all ages and a host of sectors involved in more active lifestyles.

WVU says she was a scheduled keynote speaker at Monday's Weight of the Nation Conference in Washington, D.C. The conference showcased initiatives by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to improve diet and physical activity.

WVU says state Sen. Ron Stollings, a Boone County physician, also was on the list of speakers to discuss improving physical activity.

West Virginia's plan is modeled after a national effort launched in 2010.
