Trailer fire kills Pennsylvania man, 85; cause being probed, but not considered suspicious

PITTSBURGH — Authorities in western Pennsylvania say a fire in a trailer has claimed the life of an elderly man.

Fire crews in Allegheny County said the West Deer Township residence was engulfed in flames by the time they arrived at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday.

The Allegheny County medical examiner's office said 85-year-old Ernest Geer was pronounced dead a little more than an hour later of acute smoke and fume inhalation.

Luke Raynovich, assistant chief of West Deer Volunteer Fire Department No. 1, told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that the blaze likely originated in the kitchen of the trailer.

He said the cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it does not appear suspicious.
