TALLAHASSEE, Florida — Florida's top jobs recruiter is stepping down from his post.

Gray Swoope, the state's secretary of commerce and head of Enterprise Florida, is resigning at the end of February.

Swoope was one of the few top officials who served during the entire first term of Gov. Rick Scott. He sat near Scott when the governor was sworn in for a second term.

Swoope was lured to Florida from Mississippi in early 2011.

Swoope first informed Scott in December that he wanted to resign in early 2015, but did not specify a date until Wednesday.

The 53-year-old Swoope earned $275,000 a year, but during his tenure, he also earned hefty bonuses.

Swoope said he plans to remain in Florida but did not say what he plans to do next.
