Pedestrian dies after being struck by 2 vehicles in Farmington, Delaware

FARMINGTON, Delaware — Delaware State Police say a pedestrian died after being struck by two vehicles, one of which left the scene without stopping.

It happened about 10:25 p.m. Wednesday on South DuPont Highway in Farmington. Troopers say 36-year-old Jay P. Grove III of Harrington was in the right lane when he was hit by a vehicle, which continued on.

Police say a motorcyclist stopped on the highway and called 911 to report that he had hit what he thought initially was a deer in the road.

Grove was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers said late Thursday that officers found the vehicle and the driver that hit Grove and left the scene. Authorities say the driver told police that he thought his tractor trailer had hit a deer and he continued on.
