Payne scores 23, Williams 19 to lead Murray State over Belmont 92-77


MURRAY, Ken. — Cameron Payne scored 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting, Jarvis Williams added 19 with 10 rebounds — his fifth double-double of the season — and Murray State beat Belmont 92-77 on Thursday to win its 12th straight.

T.J. Sapp scored 15, Jeffery Moss 13 with six assists, Justin Seymour and Jonathan Fairell had 10 apiece, and Fairell grabbed 11 rebounds for the Racers (14-4, 4-0 Ohio Valley Conference). Murray State outrebounded Belmont 41-24.

Craig Bradshaw put Belmont up 5-4 with a 3-pointer, but the Racers ripped a 14-2 run and led 25-16 after Seymour's 3, then led 35-20 after a jumper by Williams. Belmont gained ground on an 11-2 run, but Murray State led 46-37 at halftime.

Payne hit three consecutive 3-pointers and the Racers built a 22-point lead, 90-68, after Fairell's layup with 4:25 left.

Taylor Barnette led Belmont (10-7, 2-2) with 19, including five 3s, Evan Bradds had 17 points, and Bradshaw 16.
