Vt. prosecutor opposes trial move request in teacher killing

ST. JOHNSBURY, Vermont — Prosecutors are fighting a request to move the trial outside of Caledonia County of a man charged with his wife in the killing of a popular St. Johnbury teacher.

Allen Prue of Waterford is charged with first degree murder in the abduction and killing of Melissa Jenkins last year. His wife, Patricia Prue, is charged with aggravated murder.

Last month Allen Prue's lawyer asked that his trial be moved because of pretrial publicity.

The Caledonian Record reports (http://bit.ly/1997eb5 ) that the state's attorney is opposing the request saying the change-of-venue motion is premature and lacks merit. She says the defendant has not shown why he thinks a prejudice exists.
