ATHENS, Greece — Panathinaikos was dealt another blow to its dwindling hopes of winning the Greek league when it lost to Xanthi 1-0 on Saturday.

Panathinaikos played a man down from the 51st minute when Zeca was shown a direct red card for elbowing Karim Soltani after the latter stole the ball from him.

Soltani ended up scoring the only goal in the 67th off a Dani Nieto cross.

Xanthi just failed to pile on the misery when Vasil Shkurti's late header hit the crossbar.

Panathinaikos was in third place, 20 points behind leader Olympiakos, which hosts PAOK Sunday, and four behind AEK, which travels to Atromitos. Xanthi was eighth.

Also, Panthrakikos drew at Levadiakos 1-1, and Platanias beat Asteras 2-0.
