Police: Young boy, struck, killed while crossing Boston street

BOSTON — Boston police say a young boy has been struck and killed by a van while walking in the city.

Authorities said the 12-year-old was struck outside a fire station while crossing Cambridge Street in the city's Allston neighborhood at about 6:50 a.m. Thursday.

The principal of the boy's school, St. Patrick School in the Roxbury neighborhood, identified him in a letter to parents as seventh-grader Barrington Brinson. In the letter released by the Boston Archdiocese, Principal Mary Lanata asked for prayers for his parents and brother. She said his death brings "deep sadness" to the school community.

The boy was taken to St. Elizabeth's Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The Suffolk District Attorney's office said it is investigating, but no charges have been filed against the 50-year-old driver of a commercial vehicle that hit the boy.
