WILMINGTON, Delaware — Wilmington officials are seeking a federal study of violence in the city.
A City Council resolution requesting a study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention passed unanimously on Thursday night.
Mayor Dennis Williams has said he's contemplating a shake-up of police leadership as a result of ongoing violence, including a record number of shootings in the city this year.
The mayor says he hopes the CDC will look into the city's violence.
Councilwoman Hanifa G.N. Shabazz says she was also inspired to seek the CDC's help because of a recent study from the agency that looked into a series of suicides and suicide attempts by southern Delaware teenagers.
