Investors hope to start work on restoring Brooks House in summer

BRATTLEBORO, Vermont — Construction could start in the summer on plans to rebuild a 142-year-old building damaged by fire in Brattleboro, Vermont

The five-member investment group says the project to save the Brooks House is still moving forward.

It has been two years since a fire heavily damaged the historic 1871 building.

The investment group, Mesabi LLC, is trying to raise the estimated $23 million it will take to renovate and rebuild the structure.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports (http://bit.ly/ZFYLGw) the developers hoped to get financing in place by the end of 2012 to take advantage of tax credits that year, but the complex deal could not be completed.

The renovated building is expected to include apartments, an educational complex and businesses.
