CHARLESTON, West Virginia — Thirty-six West Virginia counties have received state grants to help pay for preserving and managing public records.
The state Records Management and Preservation Board has awarded grants totaling more than $410,000.
The projects will improve management, storage conditions, access and preservation of public records held in county government offices. Some counties plan to use the funds to digitize records or place them on microfilm. Others plan to rebind and restore records.
In addition, Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin said Wednesday that nearly $80,000 in architectural survey and planning grants will go to commissions in 10 communities for various uses.
