ST. LOUIS — A 7-year-old girl is dead and her 6-year-old sister is critically injured after a St. Louis home caught fire.

The blaze was reported just after 5 a.m. Friday on the city's north side. Firefighters heard screams and were able to pull the girls from the home and take them to a hospital, where Cadis Strong died. The younger girl's name has not been released.

The girls' 29-year-old mother and the 33-year-old man she lived with got out safely.

Firefighters believe a space heater caused the fire.
