YUMA, Arizona — Border Patrol agents say they have seized more than 170 pounds of marijuana from a vehicle in Yuma County whose driver fled the scene.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Thursday that Yuma Sector agents are processing 11 bundles of marijuana that were found in the trunk of an SUV in the Dome Valley area.

Authorities say the agents encountered an SUV around 6 p.m. Tuesday on County 10 Street and Avenue 20E.

They say the male driver stopped the vehicle but immediately abandoned it.

The suspect ran into a nearby riverbed and eluded capture.

Agents say they found $86,000 worth of marijuana.

No further details about the driver were released.
