Frozen mechanisms in sewer system leave hundreds of Livingston County residents without water

PUTNAM TOWNSHIP, Michigan — Hundreds of Livingston County residents have been without water due to issues caused by cold weather last month.

Director Lewis Lloyd of Multi Lake Water and Sewer Authority says the sewer system's vacuum failed after valves froze. He says crews are working overtime to resolve the system's issues, but the job is taking much longer than anticipated.

Lloyd says about 250 customers are still without service, while at least 50 have been put back on line.

Kim Avery of Putnam Township tells WXYZ-TV ( ) she hasn't been able to flush her toilet or use her shower for over a week. She says at least one of her neighbors has been affected by sewage back-up.

The authority serves 1,200 customers throughout portions of four townships in two counties.
