Saginaw man receives 2nd life prison sentence without parole for killing his son's mother


SAGINAW, Michigan — A Saginaw man serving a life prison sentence without parole for killing a 6-year-old girl in a 2012 has received a second such sentence for killing his son's mother in 2013.

The Saginaw News reports ( ) Saginaw County Circuit Judge Darnell Jackson gave Michael Lawrence his second life sentence Monday for the first-degree felony murder of 23-year-old Angelica Olivarez. Jackson sentenced him in February for slaying Lay'la Jones in a drive-by shooting.

Lawrence proclaimed his innocence before he was escorted out of the courtroom. A jury convicted him in October of strangling Olivarez in her home in April 2013. Lawrence was on the run at the time from the charges he faced in the Jones case. Police arrested in in Las Vegas in August 2013 after a yearlong manhunt.
