NEW ORLEANS — A New Orleans police officer is being treated for injuries after his cruiser was struck on Interstate 10 near Interstate 610.

Officer Garry Flot said the unidentified officer was taken to the hospital late Tuesday night and is in stable condition.

Flot said the officer had stopped to assist motorists who were involved in a wreck.

He says the officer was sitting in his car when an SUV struck his car from behind.

The driver of the SUV also was taken to the hospital. Flot says his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
