INDIANAPOLIS — A former Democratic county chairman in northern Indiana has been sentenced to a year in prison for his role in a scheme to forge signatures onto petitions placing Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton on the state's 2008 presidential primary ballot.
A judge in South Bend on Monday sentenced former St. Joseph County party chairman Butch Morgan to four years, with two suspended and one in community corrections.
A court official says party member Dan Blythe was sentenced to a year in community corrections. Co-defendants Bev Shelton and Pam Brunette were given two years of probation. Both women had worked in the voter registration office.
Both men were found guilty during trials in April, although they said they were innocent. Shelton and Brunette pleaded guilty and testified against them.
