Memorial services planned for central Florida sheriff's deputy killed in patrol car crash

LAKELAND, Florida — Memorial services have been planned for a central Florida sheriff's deputy killed when his patrol car crashed.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says viewings for Deputy Joseph Robbins will be held Monday afternoon and evening at a Lakeland church.

A memorial service will be held at the same church Tuesday morning. A ceremony honoring Robbins' law enforcement service will be held immediately following the church service.

Robbins was a 15-year veteran of the sheriff's office with 14 commendations and 187 recognitions in his career.

The deputy was on duty when he was found unresponsive in his marked cruiser Friday morning. Rescuers responded after someone heard the crash and called 911. Robbins was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
