Funeral underway for New York state trooper who died during training run last week

UTICA, New York — Funeral services are underway for a state trooper from central New York who died last week after collapsing during a training run in Albany.

Hundreds of fellow troopers and other law enforcement officers are attending Donald Fredenburg's funeral Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica, his hometown.

Officials say the 23-year-old Marine Corps veteran was on a training run with other troopers at the State Police Academy last Friday morning when he collapsed. Fredenburg later died at an Albany hospital.

State police say an autopsy revealed he died from a near-total blockage of the anterior coronary artery.

Fredenburg served in the Marines from 2009 until 2013. He had recently started training to become a state trooper.

Fredenburg will be buried at Utica's Cavalry Cemetery. His survivors include his wife and his parents.
