2 cars collide on Vt. interstate avoiding moose, which was unhurt

SHEFFIELD, Vermont — Vermont State Police say two drivers escaped serious injury after their vehicles collided while trying to avoid a moose at the edge of Interstate 91 in Sheffield.

Police say the crash occurred just before 5 p.m. Tuesday when 59-year-old Brian Carroll of West Glover spotted the moose and slowed his car to about 30 miles per hour.

Carroll's car was then hit from behind by a car driven by 78-year-old Marielle Arel of Barton.

Arel's car rolled over and blocked both lanes of travel. She was taken to the hospital for treatment of neck and back injuries. Carroll refused treatment.

The moose was not hit.
