KINGS CANYON NATIONAL PARK, California — A 33-year-old man who failed to return from a hike in Kings Canyon National Park has been found with a broken leg.

The Fresno Bee reports (http://bit.ly/1mRlPPX ) Gregory Hein was found by a sheriff's rescue crew Thursday evening near Davis Lake, at an elevation of more than 10,000 feet.

He was flown to a hospital in serious condition.

Sheriff's officials began looking for Hein earlier in the day, when his family reported him missing.

The Clovis resident and experienced hiker was supposed to return home Monday from a backpacking trip to Mount Goddard that began July 3.

Officials believe Hein made it to Mount Goddard and injured himself on the way back down. He may have been injured for several days.
