Woman killed by Amtrak train in Tacoma

TACOMA, Washington — A woman has been struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Tacoma.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad spokesman Gus Melonas says the woman was walking near BNSF railway tracks near downtown when the train hit her about 8:20 a.m. Thursday. The Amtrak train was travelling from Seattle to Portland.

Melonas says BNSF police are investigating and no other details about the woman were immediately available.
