DETROIT — Ambassador Bridge owner Matty Moroun is keeping up efforts to get approval for a building a bridge across the Detroit River next to the existing one.

The Detroit Free Press reports (http://on.freep.com/1xicAJg ) lawyers for Moroun on Thursday filed a notice of an appeal in federal court, challenging a decision to throw out a complaint against the U.S. Coast Guard, which has rejected his company's permit for a twin span.

The effort seeks to keep alive Moroun's bridge plans before construction begins on a bridge called the New International Trade Crossing that's financed by Canada.

The NITC bridge between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, is expected to cost $2.1 billion. Officials have said they hope to open the bridge in 2020.
