Man sentenced to maximum 40 to 80 years in murder of man found in SUV in Pennsylvania ravine

SCRANTON, Pennsylvania — A man convicted in the death of another man whose body was found in a sport utility vehicle at the bottom of a northeastern Pennsylvania ravine was sentenced Friday to 40 to 80 years in prison.

Jason Dominick, 24, was given the maximum sentence. He was convicted in May of third-degree murder and conspiracy in the death last year of 24-year-old Frank Bonacci, The (Scranton) Times-Tribune reported ( ).

Defense attorney Bernard Brown had asked the judge to combine the murder and conspiracy convictions and impose only a 17- to 34-year term.

Another man, Neil Pal, 24, was convicted in June of first-degree murder in Bonacci's death and faces a mandatory life term without parole when he is sentenced Sept. 5.

Prosecutors said Bonacci was reported missing the day after he was killed in July 2013, and after a weeklong search, his body was found in an SUV on a ledge above Roaring Brook.

Authorities said they believed Dominick shot Bonacci because he was dating Dominick's ex-girlfriend and that the two defendants then launched the SUV down a 72-foot ravine with the body inside.

Pal testified during his trial that he didn't know that Dominick was going to kill the victim.
