PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — The American Red Cross says it's helping four adults and five children who were displaced after a house fire in Providence.

Red Cross spokesman Paul Shipman says the agency is helping the two families with emergency housing and food needs after the fire on Bellevue Avenue on Thursday. The families also got kits with personal care items including toothbrushes and deodorant.

The Red Cross provides disaster assistance to victims free of charge, through donations and volunteers.

It's not clear what started the fire. Officials are investigating.
