MCENTIRE JOINT NATIONAL GUARD BASE, South Carolina — Officials at the McEntire Joint National Guard Base are warning members of the public they are holding a mock "active shooter" exercise and they should not be alarmed.

Thursday's exercise is being conducted at the installation near Eastover and Hopkins in cooperation with members of the Richland County Sheriff's Department. National Guard officials say an exact time for the exercise is not being released.

Anyone seeing security activity at the base should know it is being organized with Guard security officials and members of the Sheriff's Department, which would need to coordinate activities in the event of an attack.

Gov. Nikki Haley has called for enhanced security and training for security officials at Guard facilities in the wake of the killings of service members last month in Chattanooga, Tennessee
