WICHITA, Kansas — A registered sex offender from southwest Kansas has pleaded guilty to a federal charge of possessing child pornography.

The U.S. Attorney's office says 47-year-old Wade H. Dewey, from the Hamilton County town of Syracuse, entered the plea Monday in federal court in Wichita.

Dewey had a 1999 conviction in Pueblo, Colorado, for attempted sexual assault of a child. He admitted in court Monday that he was found last September with images and videos of child pornography that he obtained via the Internet.

Prosecutors and the defense have agreed to recommend a 20-year prison term when Dewey is sentenced on Nov. 4.
