Police say armed man in custody after lengthy standoff at southwest Ohio home

WEST CHESTER, Ohio — A standoff with an armed man that began Sunday evening has ended at a southwest Ohio home.

West Chester Township police say the man is in custody. There were no reports of injuries, but no other details were released immediately.

Spokeswoman Barb Wilson says the standoff had begun more than 13 hours earlier. Police were called to escort a woman from the home, but found that the woman was outside when they arrived. When an officer went to talk with the man, he was greeted with a gun.

She says the officer backed away and a SWAT unit was called.

Police used gas canisters and talked with the man in the hours that followed.

Wilson has identified the man only as age 35.
